LIFE AS A GOURMET
There are days when being "the Gourmet Lady" is especially fun. Friday was one such day, when I was called upon to be a judge at the annual Yachats clam chowder contest. Each year a clam chowder is chosen as the Yachats entry to a Chowder & Blues Festival in nearby Florence. I joined a small group of fellow judges, including a local favorite known as "Tom the Gourmand." We did a blind tasting of 5 chowders, and didn't even know who the 5 were. The categories of judging were aroma, appearance, texture, and flavor. The winner was LeRoy's Blue Whale. Next year I'm hoping we can do some french bread judging and wine tasting along with the chowder.
