One of the questions I'm often asked at the Gourmet Lady is how I chose what products to offer.  Product selection is something I ponder and agonize over on a regular basis.  But hands down, the first product on the list of "what should I sell" was definitely lemon curd.  Lemon curd is something I have enjoyed all my life.  As a child, I was often called upon to stir the home-made lemon curd my mother made.  I'd perch upon a high stool next to the gas stove, careful not to hit my head on the corner of the copper hood, crafted by my father.  The pans were copper, and I'd sit there with the wooden spoon, stirring constantly (under constant reminder!).  When it was done, my mom would pour the lemon curd into a beautiful purple bowl with waxed paper on the top.  Later after it had been chilled, the lemon curd would be served in homemade tarts with fresh whipped cream on top.  The tarts with lemon curd are usually served at special occasions, and guests love them.  Leftover lemon curd/tarts were favorite desserts the next day.  When my mother first saw the Gourmet Lady website, one of her first comments was this:  "What is this!  You're selling lemon curd in a JAR?????"  Of course, no lemon curd I sell could ever compare with the lemon curd made in my mother's kitchen.  But the ritual of enjoying a special lemon curd certainly evokes many happy memories.
